I tried upgrading the firmware, but still no differnece. Only thing I was curious about is why I can still only burn at 4x while the others on this post seem to have gotten it up 12x? One of them is the serial number, the lighter colour one appears to provide calibration data — possibly to do with skew angles of the laser focus.

The data from the left one is 0. At the end of a cd burn it will sometimes hang and I have to reboot to clear it but the cd is good. Firmware is original no update yet available.
